A DAY OUT IN THE CITY: CASHLESS AND EASY

Five years ago, can you imagine going out without cash in your wallet? Don't forget the long lines in withdrawing in ATM's, the hassle of lining-up inside the bank. I think no one can step out of the house and survive without cash in their wallet.

Fast forward to today, it now only takes a trusty smartphone and a few clicks to be able to go around the metro, have some fun and bring home happy memories.

Recently, I finally let go of my doubt on leaving the house cash-free (waaaah!) and try the cashless trend using GCash Mobile Payment System by taking out my daughter to a date, armed with only an ID, a credit card and a P500 bill (only for back up), and my smartphone.

Will be sharing our journey with you. Here it goes:

Sofi, my daughter, had been begging me and her daddykins to take her to The Mind Museum but we kept postponing because of work, school and chores - we can't find time to do it. Since a mother-daughter date was long overdue, and we need to make new memories, I decided to finally take her there.

Learning that GCash’s Scan to Pay feature was available at the museum made the idea of trying to go cashless for a day out in the metro more appealing to me. I thought, why not test it during the mother-daughter day out and see how it would go?

So, here’s how our cashless date looked like:

8:30 a.m: Because we want to make the most out of the day, we left our home early and booked a Grab car ride. I paid our fare, P210, with a top up to my GrabPay Credit using my GCash.

9:40 a.m: Anticipating the long hours to be spent at The Mind Museum, nag heavy breakfast muna kami at Jollibee museum’s Canopy Plaza. Ansaya that Jollibee is a merchant partner and accepts online payment via GCash. Thank goodness for that!

10 a.m: We bought our all-day pass worth P750 each as walk-in guests so we can enjoy our time without rushing. We paid for the tickets by a simple scan of the QR Code and super easy and hassle-free. There is another type of ticket available which allows visitors to explore the museum for three hours only (time slots are 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.). We chose the former because we wanted to see as much as we could, and we wanted our simple excursion to be stress-free. Plus, there were fun extra programs going on at the museum this month such as the Frozen Science Saturdays show, in which the museum’s resident scientists perform experiments using liquid nitrogen. So, we wanted to experience these add-ons as well.

4:30 p.m: After spending, exploring our time at The Mind Museum, we decided to eat na. We left the museum and walked to Bonifacio High Street. Sofi was craving pasta and pizza, so we had our late lunch/early dinner at our old-time favorite, Italianni’s. Good news is, Italianni's is a partner merchant, so I paid the bill via GCash, of course.

5:30 p.m: After that filling meal, we decided to walk around and get a quick sugar fix at Krispy Kreme, which is also a GCash merchant partner. No need for physical cash, just a few tap on my mobile phone and used the app’s Scan to Pay.

7 p.m: We didn’t want to end the day just yet dahil minsan lang maglaan ng time to go out, so we agreed to catch a movie. Dora and the Lost City of Gold was showing at 7:30 p.m. at the Bonifacio High Street Cinema. And GCash saves the day! We were able to booked our tickets via the GCash app.

7:30 p.m.: Before going to the cinema, we bought take-out snacks: a bucket of fries from Potato Corner and our favorite drinks at Happy Lemon: Milo Dinosaur for her and Cocoa Rock Salt and Cheese for me. All these were paid via my GCash app. Yahoo!!!

9:30 p.m: Finally, time to hit home. We booked a GrabCar and we used GCash to pay the driver.

What a fun, fun day it was. Thanks to GCash, we were able to enjoy our day, hassle-free. We will definitely do this again.
