As a mom, you'll never be perfect, but you can give your very best to your children. - Anonymous
Being a mom does not come with a manual. And being a mom to a 3 year old and a 13 year old does not make me an expert, either. I still have a lot to learn, need to weigh-in situations when it's needed, basically, parenting is trial and error. Kaya naman I'm always open to learn more and to gain more knowledge when it comes to being a mommy.
We all know that health is wealth. Pero ang totoo? Are we living a healthy lifestyle? I promised myself that I'll be more conscious with what I eat or what I prepare for the family. There's nothing more important than eating nutritious food and having a balanced healthy diet. My goal this pandemic is to feed the fambam healthy, yet tasty food. A balanced diet is what we need to give us energy, boost our immune system, and have an overall healthy body.
Pero paano nga ba natin sisimulan ang road to a healthy fambam, especially now that we need to be mindful sa mga kinakain natin to be healthy and strong? Actually, narealize ko, as a mom, it is time for us to take advantage na nasa house ang ating fambam. Because of WFH, distant learning and doing everything at home dahil hindi naman tayo makalabas, it is our time to prepare and cook dishes that will give us nourishment. Home-cooked meals are still the best, di ba? We can prepare healthy meals for them. We can plan meals ahead and makakapagsearch pa tayo lalo kung anong recipe ang pwede nating gawin para mabigyan ng sapat na nutrisyon ang ating pamilya.
I would like to share some tips I've learned along the way on how I prepare meals for the fambam. Of course, due to our new normal, na limit din ang paglabas labas ko and doing grocery shopping. I'm the designated grocery runner or kung tawagin natin ay tribute, haha!
Grocery shopping is one of my favorite activities. I can spend hours inside the supermarket. Haha! Reading all the labels, discovering new products, comparing prices, thinking and googling recipes to try - yes, while inside the supermarket. Lol! Every time kasi na may nakikita akong product, nagse-search ako saan ko pwede gamitin yung ingredients. In short, Supermarket is one of my happy places. Haha! But sad to say, the pandemic happened. ECQ happened. Grocery shopping now became a task na kung pwede hindi mag grocery e hindi mo na gagawin dahil sa virus at ayaw mo namang lumabas.
Kaya here are some tips that I practiced when doing the grocery in this new normal:
List down your menu for 1 or 2 weeks (depende kung ilang beses ka mag grocery sa isang buwan). I always do my grocery shopping every 2 weeks and listing down my menu is a big help for me.
Check the recipe and ingredients. Baka may need kang bilhin or kulang na sangkap na gagamitin. Kaya better check your stocks and pantry if enough na ang kakailanganin.
Before leaving the house I always double check the following:
- Eco-bag
- Cash or card plus loyalty card
- Alcohol
- Face mask and face shield
- Quarantine pass (if needed)
Aside from these, nakagawian ko na ito and it's up to you, pero I always put my phone inside a plastic or clear zip lock. Di kasi maiwasan maghawak hawak esp. if inside the grocery to check the ingredients, price, stocks, etc.
When inside the grocery, limit touching items/products.
Shop quickly and be more productive. If kabisado mo na kung saan nakalagay ang mantika, ang toilet paper, go to them directly para maiwasan tumagal sa grocery.
I tried going to the grocery at different times and different days kaya medyo kabisado ko ang peak hours nya or kung kailan madami din ang namimili. For me, best pa din ang early in the morning. The grocery I go to opens at 8am. Kaya ganong time din ako pumupunta.
While inside the grocery, be aware of what you touch. Always use alcohol diligently lalo na dahil you can’t wash hands with soap and water yet. And of course, we should always practice social distancing. Wait for your turn if madaming tao sa isang aisle.
It’s very important to list our menu and needs to avoid panic buying. It's okay to buy a little extra, pero no to panic buying para may chance din yung iba sa same item.
Check the expiry dates. Check the fruits/produce bago bilhin if mahihinog na ba sya or masisira na. Kasi if next week mo pa sya maluluto sayang naman if di mo gagamitin. Kaya need pa din natin ng menu for the week para palaging fresh ang gulay or fruits na gagamitin natin.
Check your basic supplies and essentials like your first aid kit, medicines, vitamins, and non-perishable products like toiletries, disinfectants, cleaning supplies para isang bilihan ka na lang sa grocery. Consider the needs of your family during planning or listing down your needs before going to the grocery to save you some trips.
Don’t forget to grab Vitaminized Lactum 3+. Both Plain and Chocolate flavors contain immuno-nutrients that help strengthen the immunity plus key brain and bone supporting nutrients too!
When you get home, don't forget to rest first, take a bath and disinfect everything. Wash your produce and fruits properly.
And speaking of produce and fruits, I always see to it na ang mga pine-prepare kong dishes sa family ay healthy and nutritious talaga.
As we are teaching our kids to eat veggies, dapat nakikita din nila sa atin. Kaya very important to eat meals as a family. If hindi naman kaya to sit together everyday, maglaan ng araw that you can sit together, para makita ng mga anak natin that we are also eating what they are eating. Iba ang break time ni Ate Sofi from her distant learning and iba din ang lunch break ni Daddy who is working from home. But every weekend, it's a must na everyone will be seated on our dining table, enjoying meals together.
Hehe! When your child sees na nag eenjoy ang buong pamilya sa pagkain ng gulay at fruits, na-eenganyo din sila. Isha loves malunggay, kaya we always see to it na meron kami nito and yung mga recipes that I prepare for the fambam e kasama ang malunggay. We can always include veggies in the meals we prepare, at kahit hindi sila mahilig sa complicated meals like torta, nuggets, meatballs, etc. ay pwedeng pwedeng lagyan ng gulay. Ang mga bata din mahilig sa sabaw or masabaw na ulam, so we make sinigang (Isha's fave), tinola, masabaw na monggo, etc. Sa fruits naman, we can make fruit shake or jelly fruits.
As young as Isha who is turning 4 years old next month, she eats what we eat. Kaya as parents, let's all be good examples to our children. Let's create moments and activities that will excite them kapag eating time and so that they have something to look forward to as well. Hindi kailangan ng bonggang handaan or kainan, as long as these are healthy dishes that we prepared with love. Kaya to make sure that we're giving a good headstart to our children, we should always give them Vitaminized Lactum 3+.
