Smart Summer Home Tips: A Mom’s POV on Keeping Our Home Cool, Comfortable, and Energy-Efficient

Summer at home hits differently when you’re a mom. I’m always looking for ways to make our home more comfortable, especially during summer when the heat can be a bit too much for everyone. I recently joined The Smart Summer Home Masterclass by SM Home, and honestly, I came in expecting the usual tips. But I left with practical reminders that actually made sense for everyday life.

Sharing what I've learned:

1. Let your home “breathe”
Don’t underestimate airflow. I moved a few big pieces of furniture slightly away from the walls, and it actually helped air circulate better. Less kulob, more fresh feeling inside the house.

2. Stop the heat before it starts
Blackout curtains are a must. I recently bought one in SM Home and it's a gamechanger. I make it a habit now to close them before the afternoon sun hits. It really helps keep the heat out, so the house stays cooler longer.

3. Unplug and save
As moms, we juggle a lot and sometimes we forget the small things. Chargers, kitchen appliances, even gadgets still use power when plugged in. Now, I unplug what’s not in use, and it’s one of the easiest ways to cut down on energy use.

4. Be smarter with your aircon
Instead of setting it super low, just keep it around 25°C. Then use a fan to help circulate the cool air. Comfortable na, but more energy-efficient, too.

5. Choose appliances that work smarter
If you’re planning to upgrade, consider inverter appliances. They may be a bit pricier upfront, but they help save more electricity over time, perfect for long-term use at home.

What I love about these tips is that they’re simple and easy to put into practice. There’s no need for big renovations or extra expenses, just small, intentional changes you can start incorporating into your daily routine.

As a mom, I value anything that feels realistic and manageable. It doesn’t have to be done all at once. Even making one or two adjustments like improving airflow or being more mindful with electricity use, can already create a noticeable difference over time.

If you’re looking for where to start, you can find everything you need at SM Home, from practical home upgrades to thoughtful pieces that help keep your space cool, fresh, and well put together.

Sometimes, it’s not about changing everything. It’s about making smarter choices for your home, one step at a time, so you can enjoy a more relaxed, comfortable summer with the people who matter most.
