Freeway's 9th National Artist x Fashion and Music

I had a pleasure to attend and witnessed the unveiling of Freeway's 9th National Artist thru fashion. It was held at The Row, Glorietta branch. It was a night of music and kundiman songs filled the air. :)

This year marks the centennial year of a man whose musical talent and influence greatly affected the course of Philippine music and culture. This man is none other than Lucio San Pedro, hailed National Artist for Music in 1991. Freeway celebrates his 100th anniversary with the launch of the 9th installment of the National Artist Collector’s Series.

And I love the design Freeway made for these collection. I love the cuts and different variety of each clothes. The black and white color added class to the new collection.

For the collection, it is composed of a wide array of casual to work tops and dresses using fabrics such as satinized twills, matte charmeuse, poplins and knits.  The unique cuts and styles made out of different fabric combinations are carefully crafted to flatter the woman's figure without sacrificing comfort by using mostly stretch fabrications. As for its visual prowess, the collection combines floral inspirations with hand drawn lines and curves fused with lyrics and titles of San Pedro’s famous orchestra pieces. Colors range from the basic black and white to subtle tones such as beige and teal. Certainly, these pieces are made to capture the essence and mark of the Filipina's modern beauty.

The guests were treated to a beautiful medley of songs prepared by high school students straight from Lucio’s hometown, the ARS Noveau Chorale from Angono Rizal Lead School for the Arts. They awed the audience with hits such as Sa Mahal Kong Bayan, Piliin Mo ang Pilipinas, Kayumangging Malaya and Sa Ugoy ng Duyan.

Also a respected musical talent herself, Ms. Rachel Alejandro surprised the audience by joining the kids onstage and performed with them.

Of course the night wouldn’t be complete without Lucio San Pedro’s beloved family being present. The night’s special guests, Kristy San Pedro Salita, Rhodora San Pedro delos Santos, Alberto delos Santos and Prof. Gabby San Pedro Rojas, did a special interview with Rachel onstage.

In line with the nationalistic theme of the event, the night was capped off with the presentation of the winners of the recently held Art Bag Design Contest. Their winning designs, Fiestas in the Philippines by Kevin Roque and Ang Huling Babaylan by Christine Sioco, are now available in Freeway stores nationwide.

And of course, being with these girls made the event even better! :))
