I rarely watch TV, let alone Filipino shows. No offense to my kababayan, but I find some shows/series running with the same format, same storyline, same humor, same drama. You've seen one, you've seen them all. I'd rather use my time doing something than watching Filipino shows.
But.. I had a changed of heart when I watched the latest show from TV5. Last week, I was invited to watch the pilot episode of Kano Luvs Pinay. It is the latest offering of TV5. It's a comedy show but it will surely open our eyes and somehow we can relate to the message of the show.
Question: When you see a Filipina with a foreigner boyfriend, what do you think of the Pinay? The other day, I saw a Filipina with a foreigner boyfriend and heard someone say "nakabingwit si ate". We are quick to judge without knowing them and without bothering to know their story. But maybe they really found true love from each other without color, race barrier.
Based on the title Kano Luvs Pinay, we may have an idea what's the story is about. It was really funny, entertaining, and each character has a story to tell. The cast is led by comedienne Tuesday Vargas as Cookie and american actor Lee O'Brien as Matthew. The romantic comedy and situation comedy I think is one of the first show that tackles intercultural relationships. It mixes Filipino humor, kilig and family values while taking a look at the intricacies of interracial relationships between a Filipina and her American fiance.
Also starring in Kano Luvs Pinay are veteran actors Boboy Garovillo and Ces Quesada as the overbearing parents of Cookie. Model turned actress Wilma Doesnt as Osang, the ever afa supportive best friend of Cookie and theater actress Kiki Baento as Girlie, the other best friend who has strictly no afams policy with regard her love life.
Watch the lives of Cookie and Matthew as they prove to the world that love conquers all and that it is the universal language that know no grammar, pronunciation and form. Discover the various reactions of the Filipino family and community to the presence of Matthew in their lives. Or how Matthew tries to cope and understand the Filipino culture .
Find out if despite all the hurdles and conflict that their cultural differences may bring about, will love for Cookie and Matthew still win in the end? Will their be a happy ending?
Mark your calendar every Saturday, 9PM starting September 5, 2015 on TV5 and let's watch Kano Luvs Pinay with our family and friends. Promise, it's one of the funny shows I've watched!
Congratulations to all the cast of Kano Luvs Pinay and TV5! I'm sure it will be a hit! Can't wait to watch it!
